Background Information: Derrick Boyd was born in Plainview, Texas in 1968. He was raised in Decatur, Texas and graduated from Decatur High School in 1987. Derrick attended the University of Texas and earned his degree in 1991. He received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law in 1994.
Derrick has practiced law in Decatur since completing law school. He is board certified in civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Boyd has been voted the prestigious title of 2006’s Texas Rising Star by his peers. Derrick was co-counsel on the largest jury verdict attained in a trademark infringement case in Texas history. Derrick heads the Decatur office of Simpson, Boyd and Powers.
Since he returned to Decatur, Derrick has taken interest in helping the community, serving on the Decatur Chamber of Commerce where he just completed a three-year term as director. He also served on the Economic Development Committee for the Main Street Program in Decatur. Derrick has recently been named to the Decatur ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors.
Derrick and his wife, Cheri, have two children; Emily and Ainsley.
